“It worked out perfectly,” he said with a laugh.
Months later, after the Bears declined Massie’s option, the Broncos signed him with the hope he’s the ideal-and-maybe-even-perfect solution to stop their revolving door at right tackle.
The Broncos started two right tackles in 2018, three in ’19 when big-ticket acquisition Ja’Wuan James was hobbled by multiple injuries to the same knee and three last year when James opted out of the season.
The James Error ended last month after he tore his Achilles while training off-site. The Broncos moved quickly to sign Massie and Cameron Fleming and entering the start of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, Massie (112 career starts) should be viewed as the favorite to start Sept. 12 at the New York Giants.
