I'd like recommendations for my sister's roadtrip playlist. I'm droppin' a 1 hr playlist for her each day, and it's centered on her request for "mainly old school hip-hop, punk, funk ... energetic, I want help staying awake ... stuff I haven't heard." But I'm sprinkling it with a song or two out of genre like a cardamom pod.

I'm looking for some 4-6m cuts that are mid to uptempo, positive colors, driving melodic lines that aren't overly cerebral, ... something like that. I'm looking for driving rhythm but exotic feelings and colors. One cut I have in day 3's list is this one:

Here's the first day's list to give the flavor...(there's no jazz in this one)

Gracias. I can't play a lick, but music is one of the things I love most in life. I have definitely listened to my fair share, across a range of genres.

This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

Hawg, if you wanna dig through some of my funk playlists, you might find some stuff that works. They're the kind of up-tempo, high energy jams that would work for a road trip, IMO.

I keep coming back to this tune.
This is how you build a solo.
Davis uses no vibrato. Yet touches every note.
I posted this once before with another tune...Mrs Morrison. If you missed it it or if you didn't. This is cool.

Some of you may have heard this...it's the opening track to the film Ascenseur pour l'échafaud (soundtrack).

    Davis recorded it in 1957.

The sound track became the opening side of the album Jazz Track which recieved a Grammy nomination.

Generique. I've been listening to this...again...

What album is this from? It sounds almost as Funkadelic as it is jazz.

    Get Up With It

It was part of Davis foray into Funk.

Here is a name, Jahari Stampley. He's new...if you like piano...

Get in on the ground floor.

He just won the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz International Competition.

He just released his first album less than a month ago. "Still Listening."

He's so new YouTube doesn't have his first album up, just cuts off of it.

I've been looking for someone since Davis.

This guy is going to be a star.

    I'm...Still Listening

His playing is great but this recording is poorly mic'ed. I can hear bassy percussion when (I think) he activates the sostenuto pedal.

You mean I need to listen to it on vinyl or another medium?

It might be that my bass is too loud as I listen through my computer sound setup. I'm interested in listening some more. His playing is unreal.
