Catch 22 for the Broncos. While agents/players will notice and remember this, the league office would also remember if the Broncos did not jump on this opportunity to reinforce the strength of 31 other teams to leverage players to come into offseason workouts. James was coming in to the facility to practice, and the union explicitly told him and DaeSean Hamilton to stop. Both players suffered season-ending injuries, and the Broncos were put into a situation where they have two choices:
    1. Show the players that they are a first-class organization and they will "do right" by the players.
    2. Carry out the league's bidding for them, and in the process get rid of a bad contract and clear some cap space.

For a team with an OWNER, number 1 might actually be the correct choice. For a team without an owner, number 2 was the only choice. There would have been consequences for the franchise in upcoming league meetings and no doubt increased pressure to sell. Who knows what the ownership situation will look like in 3 years, but if the Broncos did not take advantage of this opportunity to win some favor with the league, certainly the other 31 franchises may have taken notice and looked to change the status quo in an undesirable way for the people currently running the Broncos.

The good news is, when whoever takes over for Ellis, they will have a clean slate and be free to set their own precedents. There is no way that the league office did not have at least an indirect hand in outright releasing James vs. reaching a settlement though.

James seemed to blame the union and not the organization though, based on his statement after being released. So, that's a positive for the Broncos.

i'm pretty sure players will still like denver's money just fine. . . besides, all will be forgiven once we have aaron rodgers. . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

If you believe everything you read apparently Rivera is slitting veterans throats to show that the past is not good enough, typical meathead, Mike Singeltary “New Sheriff in town” bullshit.

Oh that's a shame. He's a good RT. Rivera is good enough of a coach to know better than that, too. He was a player's coach in Carolina and artfully handled a lot of shenanigans. This doesn't seem like the same guy. )=

Well that was a short stint for RT Pope.

The Denver Broncos made a flurry of roster moves on Monday, announcing the signing of offensive tackle Cody Conway, linebacker Pita Taumoepenu, and quarterback Case Cookus, whose addition was reported Sunday.

Backup OT Calvin Anderson also inked his exclusive-rights free agent tender, keeping him under contract for the 2021 season.
In corresponding transactions, the team waived OT Ryan Pope and LB David Curry.

Makes it unlikely that he’d be involved in a Aaron Rodgers trade because of cap reasons.

A few player updates for you all, and a bit about our new WR.

Wide receiver Tim Patrick and safety Trey Marshall have signed their free-agent tenders, the Broncos announced Tuesday.

Patrick was a restricted free agent, while Marshall was an exclusive rights free agent. Both players are now officially under contract with the team through the 2021 season.

Denver also signed free-agent wide receiver Damion Willis and designated wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton as waived/NFI (non-football injury).

Willis last appeared in a regular-season game in 2019, when he started two games and appeared in 10 for the Bengals. He caught nine passes for 92 yards on 16 targets. The undrafted player from Troy University — the alma mater of DeMarcus Ware — joined the Jaguars' practice squad late in 2020.

I told you Cookus was signed to throw to the rookies at mini camp. Nothing more. Obviously, the only way he was gonna stick was if he blew the staff way in his short audition. He might be back for TC as a camp arm regardless if we get Rodgers or someone else or not but he’s not going to compete for a roster spot.
