Default What is the plan for improving Fangio's gameday management?

I'm curious to track anything the organization says this offseason...

What is the specific plan for Fangio's clock management / two point / fourth down decision making to improve this year? Is he getting help? Do we have an analytics team who is analyzing? Are we bringing in a consultant to help him?

Status quo is totally unacceptable. If he doesn't get it at this stage in his football career, which he has demonstrated that he does not, then we need to outsource some help for him. Thus far, I haven't heard any specifics...

Well Elway/Fangio basically eliminated the analytics department last year, because apparently we like being neanderthals, so I'm not exactly holding my breath. My hope is that Paton will beef us up in that area, but I haven't seen indication on that one way or another yet.

Kubes, for whatever his faults might have been, had an analytics guy he leaned on for that kind of decision making, and I feel like it showed, because I don't remember him making a ton of game situation blunders. Paton is really our only hope to get back to this with the current staff because Elway and Fangio seem to have no interest in it.

Also I like to think my bump of the XP/2PT thread inspired you to start this one.

Also, they did "mutually" part ways with the director of analytics, they still have:

Neat, hadn't seen that! Good to see he's at least interested in using analytics for roster building. Didn't mention in that how/if he intends to apply it to in game decision making, so that's something I'll be interested in seeing unfold.

    From the piece:

"Evaluation is number one and analytics is just another piece of the equation," Paton said. "Maybe it breaks a tie, maybe it makes you aware of a player you didn't grade as high, maybe it gives you a red flag. So, we're going to use it as just another piece. I think it's great for in-game management. It's something I think they've used here and it's something we'll use going forward as well."

Huh, guess I glossed over that piece. Well that's encouraging then. Fangio is awesome in terms of X's and O's and team preparedness, but some of his situational decision making in games has been extremely lacking. Really hope Paton follows through on those remarks and really makes that a focus. A fresh infusion of ideas like that is something this franchise has desperately been needing.

Kubes was also career backup QB and an OC before becoming a HC, so he had a good grasp of how to make good decisions on the specific matters that Buff highlighted. Everyone else Elway has hired to be HCs have been DCs. I don't know how much control Fangio gives his OCs on game day, but I believe it should be 100%. Just as DCs should have a better understand D, OCs should have a better understand O. So, I believe that just as DCs that become HCs should turn complete gameday control over the O to the OC, I believe OCs that become HCs should turn complete gameday control over the D to the DC.

I don’t think it was bad last season as it was the year before.

At the end of the day it’s still football, the team who out scores the other will win.

Wait, what? He absolutely lost them three games last year with boneheaded, indefensible coaching decisions including the travesty of the finale which should be burned into everyone's memories. The problem is, the job is too big for Fangio. He should have been shown the door and would have been with a team that had an actual owner. He wont get better anymore than an elderly grandparent will improve their driving skills. He was a bad hire and is a bad HC. Decent Coordinator though, but not a HC.

Wave has really grown on me lately.

He's quite the grower it seems.
