Different era. There’s a ton of average qb’s putting up monster numbers over the last 20 years because of passing favored rules changes. You’re going to have a ton of qbs with inflated and misleading numbers that we will be having this same conversation about very soon. So phyliss has over 100 more touchdown passes than Elway. He must be better than John then, right?
Not playing in a SB should hurt him.

Rivers will probably get in but he wont be a first ballot guaranteed.
The most recent "glory years" of the Chargers was 2004 - 2009; winning 5 divisional titles and having only 1 non winning record over those 6 seasons. They won the division in 2008 with an 8-8 record, while missing the play-off in 2005 while going 9-7. This stretch started in Brees' 3rd year as their starting QB, (2 years before Rivers took over) & Tomlinson's 4th as their featured RB. It came to an end the day Tomlinson was released. In the 10 seasons in which Rivers' didn't have him as his featured RB, they had only 2 play-off appearances without a single division title. Furthermore, the Chargers' had only 1 double digit winning season vs. 3 double digit losing seasons.

I always admired his uncanny ability to turn third and long into first downs...except when he was playing us.
Then I hated it...;-)
