Just one time, I want to hear a new football hire say he wants to be more passive.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

I have high hopes for Paton. Obviously, he come highly lauded and recommended. He appears to be more of a draft guru than a wheeler and dealer and that’s what it takes for long term success. I don’t, however, know if that means the offseason will be less exciting because there’ll be less movement in FA. He doesn’t seem like the type for big-name splash signings.

I’m happy about the hire. I admit Fontenot was probably my #1 hire just because of the success of the Saints and the roster they’ve got. Paton was 2nd. Just hoping for a good off season.

I have a hard time believing he didn't watch any tape of Lock before taking the job. This really feels like a non answer to me because maybe he isn't super high on him.

I remain even further convinced that Paton is not in on Lock.

No GM worth anything would ever tell the rest of the NFL that the Broncos weren't going to take a QB at 9...

    Advantages to endorsing Lock now:
-Lock might feel good about himself from January-July when no games are played
-Can take a QB by surprise at 9

    Disadvantages to endorsing Lock now:
-Want BPA options at 9? Teams will trade up thinking Broncos all in on Lock.
-Teams might not trade above Denver to take their QB. They might just wait it out.
-Exploring trade options hurts feelings. Watson available? Can't get in on those trade talks without PR hit.

Showing your hand as a GM in endorsing Lock right now isn't smart. The roster after draft day will speak for itself.

I guess the thing for me is do I really feel like anybody that's available at 9:00 is going to substantially improve this roster when we have so many holes to fill on the defensive side of the ball and I still don't think with limited off-season and instability on the offensive line and lacking our best receiver that we've had a real opportunity to evaluate lock. And I keep saying it but if Buffalo had given up on Josh Allen after one season or held him to the same standard that many people want to hold lock to they never would have known what they had and no one can tell me that after his first season and a half anyone thought he would be playing at this level

Just hope that it will be one that will stay there. And really get back to winning. Nothing is guaranteed.
