Once you leave, and then you opt back in, the mods will have to approve it (takes a manual approval), but as far as I know they have no rule where if you leave, you leave for good (unless they invited you to leave). However, there is nothing that let's them know that someone is waiting, so if you opt back in you should shoot one of them a PM and ask them to look for your opt in request.

This is correct, i left for a month or so around the election and when i came back had to wait until the mods ok'd it.

It might take a few weeks or even longer from experience as an FYI. Go figure, the mods having actual outside lives to lead...

I wish the forum gave us an indicator that there were requests in there. I remember to check it every couple of weeks, but it has gotten past us at times. UGH!

Its all good I'm lurking and small posting at the moment. Seems easier for everyone, then if I leave and have to wait or remind to get back in. That seems not worth it or fair to the mods. Lets be real if I let a message board get to me to the point where I opt out to just opt back in later I'm just being petty

As a counter argument - sometimes it can be a nice experience to formally opt out for awhile. I don’t blame those on the other side of this election for doing that at all. Take a break. Do something else. Take a news vacation.

I'm not really on the other side, I roll between both sides depending on the issue perhaps why I feel opting out is just being petty, The question was sincere, my intention to do so less. I was actually over most of all this once Biden was elected. I am also in the camp that Trump has really disgraced himself these last few months on a whole different level. No need for a break. Time to move on and hope the new guy doesn't mess up *Shrugs*. Some of the early policy rumors are concerning....but nothing is solid or law or passed yet.....

Opting out isnt bad as i really enjoyed the time away. I dont see it as petty i just see it as "out of sight out of mind" type of deal which worked wonders until after the election.

Yeah the reason I opt out is so I don't see my recent message page flooded with politics posts when I'm not interested in being in there.

Same here, when i hit the "new posts" button everything thats been posted in pops up but when i opt out the P&R stuff isnt there so like i said "out of sight out of mind" and i couldnt believe how much nicer it was not sifting through all the toxic crap the last few months. So far the forum seems to be in much better shape with people actually having discussions rather than the flaming of one another.

And now you know why our childish antics have been so frustrating to the mods. They don't get to opt out of seeing the political threads pop up. Their "new posts" show the political stuff whether they are actively participating in the forum or not.
