If Denver included Sutton in a trade, they'd still have Jeudy, Hamler, Patrick, Watson, Noah Fant, Albert Okwuegbunam, Melvin Gordon possibly, and possibly Phillip Lindsay plus the draft. I'd say that's still pretty damn appealing. But you give up what is needed to get a player like Watson.

Where Denver has an advantage is that they have a good roster in place on both sides of the ball and can afford his contract. Denver is also a very young team and a lot of their top talent is part of that youth. Denver can afford to cough up a couple years worth of first round picks and a player or two without severely hampering the future of the franchise to land Watson via trade.

IMO, miami is in the driver's seat if they want in. . . they can offer tua instead of lock if houston wants a QB back, they have a very promising young HC, they were closer to the playoffs this year-- and they have the draft capital to put together a better offer than we can, while still having picks to add more talent as well. . .

but paton definitely needs to make the call. . . and if they want sutton, i wouldn't even blink. . . WRs are highly replaceable-- every single year, there's good talent in free agency, and a bunch in the draft. . . the last time denver had a young franchise QB was in the 1980's. . . i'd start the bidding with two 1sts and jeudy, but they can basically have whoever they want. . . they'd rather have chubb, or dre'mont, or sutton? cool, sign me up. . . SR's right, watson is more than good enough to work with patrick - jeudy - hamler - fant, or whatever. . . and it's not like going a few years without 1sts precludes you from drafting more weapons. . .

i really don't think we're a serious contender, but i'd love to be proven wrong on that. . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

Broncos should stay put. Don't be tempted to torpedo the rest of your decade for the sake of one quarterback.

Texans should ask for four #1s plus three #2s over the next five years. We are talking about a fixed-cost Pro Bowl QB at the peak of his career. Let the NY media choke on that for awhile.

Watson isn't James Harden and the NFL isn't the NBA. That asking price is ludicrous and you won't see it.

If Denver retains their current roster with Casey, Callahan, Simmons, Gordon, and James going in to next season I think their ceiling is 9-7 with Lock at QB. The same roster, minus whomever Denver would trade, with Deshaun Watson is a 10-12 win team and a playoff contender. I don't think that's even debatable.

I don't see it as "torpedoing" the rest of the decade. I've watched him play multiple times. This kid is something else and would transform the organization for the next decade. If I'm Elway/Paton, I go in to this with an offer of two proven starters whether it be Chubb, Von, Sutton, Fant, whatever, and two firsts spread out between two drafts, plus maybe like a second or fourth. That's hardly torpedoing the next decade. Watson has been in the league only a few years. Elway has proven he can manage the cap with the best of them. The new GM comes from an organization that has a solid recent draft history. I've stated before that I'm not a fan of mortgaging the future to trade for a player, but when a talent like Watson is there you have to explore all opportunities.

I'd debate it. How many wins did Watson give Houston last season?

Which is precisely why I ask for it. It sends a message that a) the Texans won't just roll over to give the Jets or Dolphins what they want (that moron now coaches at Alabama) and b) if they're serious about trading for him, they need to bring some serious chips to the table. A first, a second and a failed starting QB will not be enough to get it done. It won't even be enough to start a down payment.

How much did Houston give up for a LT who STILL isn't an All-Pro? Whatever Watson's value, it should be at least double that.

There is a reason he wants out. The team's level of incompetence is astounding.
