Was it that stupid song "Team Sloter! Team Sloter!" that made all the fans go nuts and keep Jonesing for Sloter? Or was it something else that I missed?
He looked good in a couple of pre-season games. Basically Dude was another Trevor Siemian at best. The only reason to have kept him at the time was to get rid of Paxton Lynch.
And John Elway was obviously not going to get rid of Paxton who was his first round pick. And the upside for Paxton was actually much higher, it's just that he never came close to achieving it, while Sloter fulfilled his potential by sticking around in the league as a backup for several years.
My hat's off to Sloter! He's got about the best job in the world. Hold a clip-board and run scout teams. For this they pay him a minimum of $12,000 a week. Just sit there on the bench for the rest of the season and he'd make at least $60,000 this year for 6 weeks work. And he could wind up making the 53 man roster somewhere as a backup; sit on the bench and make $675,000 minimum.
Not a bad life at all!
If the Bears were smart they would ditch Trubisky and keep Sloter, but Trubisky was the #2 overall pick, so that will never happen. Unfortunately this might be the last stop for Sloter, but hopefully he will stick in Chicago.Seeking insurance because of the corona-virus pandemic and backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky’s injured right shoulder, the Bears signed quarterback Kyle Sloter to their practice squad Tuesday.
Sloter, 26, has never appeared in a regular-season NFL game. He was signed by the Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2017 and has since had stops with the Vikings, Cardinals and Lions.
Since the end of high school, Sloter has started one season at quarterback completing 198 of 319 passes for 3,656 yards, 29 touchdowns and 10 interceptions as a senior at Northern Colorado in 2016.
