Default Drew Lock turns Knute Rockne at halftime to help fuel epic Denver Broncos rally

DENVER -- Broncos quarterback Drew Lock stood in front of the team's offense at halftime Sunday and said it was time for the group to "man up'' and that he had to be first in that line.

And in the 30 football minutes that followed that short speech, Lock erased two of the worst quarters he has played in his football life, the Broncos scored 28 second-half points -- 21 of those in the fourth quarter -- and Denver snatched a 31-30 victory from the Los Angeles Chargers on the game's final play.

"I just got up in front of the offense and said, 'Listen, it's so easy for us to come in here and yell and scream and get mad about what we're doing bad, but we just need to man up, and when the plays come our way, we need to make them, myself included. I'm not yelling at y'all, I'm obviously talking to myself right now, screaming to myself right now,''' Lock said. "And that's exactly what we did.''

Default 'He definitely needed it': Drew Lock rebounds from tough first half to deliver near-perfect fourth quarter

DENVER — They called for his head at halftime.

As Drew Lock and the Broncos fell behind 14-3 to the two-win Los Angeles Chargers, media members and fans alike openly wondered whether the Broncos' second-year quarterback should be benched in favor of Brett Rypien.

Premature? Clearly, but the results were anything but pleasant.

The Broncos posted just three points in the first half, a field goal that was made possible only because of a Justin Simmons interception and ensuing return. Otherwise, the Broncos were stagnant whenever they possessed the ball. They punted on five of their six first-half possessions, excluding a kneel down to end the first half, and mustered just two first downs.

I remember people telling me I was full of shit when I said the locker room was brutal to Tebow when he played bad, which was every week, it’s no different for Lock.

True story. One time Knute Rockne didn't show up in the locker room for his halftime speech. Then, just before the team was supposed to go back on the field, Rockne came in and said "oh, pardon me ladies. I was looking for the Notre Dame locker room", then left. The Irish then blew the doors off their opponent in the second half.

He could never get away with that at today's colleges.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.
