Default One More: Mike Purcell done for season

    https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...purcell-season
Broncos starting nose tackle Mike Purcell will miss the rest of the 2020 season because of a foot injury he suffered Sunday in Denver's 43-16 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, coach Vic Fangio announced Monday.

Fangio told reporters he believes Purcell has a Lisfranc injury.
Another loss, another season ending injury. Seems like the players don't get injured as much when the team wins.

Same thing happened in baseball with no real spring training after the COVID shutdown.

The one area I didn't see this in much was when the NHL switched back on. Seems like MLB and the NFL are taking an absolute beating with injuries this year. Not sure about what happened with the NBA, but don't really care either.

The NBA flourished, because they have great leadership.

I don't think you can overstate how important he is to this defense. When he and AJ came in last year it was a huge boost to the defense. He's not flashy but he does what a good nose tackle is supposed to do.

    How does leadership prevent injury?

    oh for f**k's sake!
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

At this point I don't see the point in bringing in a washed veteran. Just play the young guys and see if you have something in any of them.

League minimum, save cap space to roll over.

the point is that he's a natural nosetackle, which none of our young guys are. . . fangio just said today that sly williams will be used in the role-- he does have some experience there, but he's obviously an older vet himself, and isn't the best fit at the position. . . at most spots, i would agree with just playing the young guys, but NT is a spot that will negatively impact the entire defense if it's not filled correctly. . .

According to Jerry Jones, he's 30 pounds overweight and didn't do what he needed to do to get back down, so they cut him. Sounds like he lacks discipline.

i'm gonna double down on this. . . without a capable nosetackle who can constrict those interior running lanes, fagio's 2-4-5 base just plain can't hold up against the run. . . we gave up over 200 rushing yards yesterday, and it pretty much killed any chance we had of winning. . . it puts pressure on you to play your safeties closer to the LOS, and makes it too easy for your opponent to sustain drives when they're constantly in 2nd-and-short, 3rd-and-short. . .

of course, it makes it even worse when your own offense can't put together drives. . . we were in third-and-long all day, and they were able to unleash the blitz at their leisure. . . when you get dominated up front in both phases of the game, blowouts like yesterday are a fairly predictable result. . . our defense was worn out by the third quarter. . . IMO, we're going to see a lot more ugly repeats if they can't find somebody who can hold the point better than the guys we're currently asking to do it. . .

It’s almost as if they should carry more than one NT?
