Default NFL moves Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Las Vegas Raiders game to Sunday afternoon

The NFL announced Thursday that Sunday's Buccaneers-Raiders game, originally scheduled for 8:20 p.m. on NBC, now will start at 4:05 p.m. on Fox.

The league said it made the move "out of an abundance of caution to ensure that a game would be available for fans on Sunday Night Football."

The Seahawks-Cardinals game will now be played Sunday night.

Raiders tackle Trent Brown was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, and the team sent home all five of its starting offensive linemen from practice as part of contact tracing.

In its statement, the league said it still expects Buccaneers-Raiders to be played Sunday.

So, out of an abundance of caution, we're moving up the time of the game so as to allow less time to be sure if someone is infected or not. Gotcha.

What, the second Monday Night time block was taken?
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

Right Hoof, why move it up? Unless they think that's enough time to postpone the game if it comes to that. I dunno.

EDIT: Ok they moved it up just in case they need to move it back to Monday or Tuesday. They switched it from Primetime with the Seahawks-Cardinals due to the risk of having to postpone it. Now it makes sense.

    Damn you, 2020. Damn you.

They are moving it because they don't want to not have a Sunday night game. 4pm Sunday is probably just a temporary spot that will be moved back to Monday or Tuesday if needed.

Even without fans in the stands there are dozens of team/league/stadium personnel that have to be available for the game. Why jerk them around if the Sunday afternoon time slot is just a placeholder? I understand the reason they moved it off of Sunday night. What I don't understand is why they pushed the game up instead of back? They've already demonstrated a willingness to stage a second game on Monday nights. Why not just do that instead of potentially shifting the game twice?

I think they still expect the game to be able to be played Sunday. Moving it back is probably their last resort.

This is why they didn't immediately push the game back. Because it's able to be played today.
