Default Fitzpatrick shocked by benching in favor of Tua

    https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...zpatrick-heart

I kind of understand his thinking, its not like the Dolphins are out of any contention at all.

"I was shocked by it. It definitely caught me off guard. It was a hard thing for me to hear yesterday, just kind of digesting the news. My heart just hurt all day. It was heartbreaking for me," Fitzpatrick said Wednesday. "Flo kind of said what he said and said what he said to you guys as well, and that's the decision and the direction that the organization is going in."

"Obviously we've talked in the past, me and you guys, about how I'm the placeholder and this eventually was going to happen," Fitzpatrick added. "It was just a matter of kind of when, not if. It still just ... it broke my heart yesterday. It's a tough thing for me to hear and to now have to deal with, but I'm going to do my best with it."

Yeah that's a raw deal for him. But if Miami thinks Tua is ready I don't blame them for making the move.

Im guessing they feel its a lateral move at worst.

Makes sense to do it at this point since it's their bye week. I'm sure Fitz knew his days were numbered when they drafted Tua.

Fitz has a special place in my pantheon of all time NFL qbs.

I mean, he seems like a cool dude and an interesting hang, but he doesn’t actually think he’s taking these jobs as not a stop gap, does he?

Disappointed sure, but “shocked”? He’s been around way too long not to understand what’s happening here.

Dammit MO. This was going to be a magical year.

    *THE* magical year.

This is almost like the Plummer-Cutler situation, except Fitzpatrick is playing a lot better than Plummer when he was benched.

He's done it to himself when he's played the role of backup mercenary for so many years.

You say this as if he has had better options.

Fitz had a moment when he would have been the man in Buffalo but when he signed that big deal and then fell apart the next season was the beginning of the end for him.

I mean I love Jake Plummer, but he wasn’t playing well at the time. It was still a suspect decision to bench him at that part of the season.

Fitzpatrick also wasn’t coming off three straight playoff seasons, but yeah...something like that.

I guess that Ivy League education didn't prepare him for the reality of stepping aside for the first-round guy they drafted at your position. Like you couldn't see this coming?
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.
