6th. I think getting that great a QB that late is like a once every 20 years type thing though. That was just dumb luck that he ever got to play in the first place. QB is the one you really have to nail in the first couple of rounds typically, but the rest of the roster you really have to be able to fill out in those middle rounds and with late round/undrafted fliers.

We're on the same page, I'm just pointing out that the Broncos - pre and post Elway - have had an uncanny knack of picking players in the later rounds that substantially impact the success of this team.

Early round picks? Not so much. Which kind of makes the case that we don't really need high round picks, of which plenty have failed - regardless of the team that picked them.

For sure. The idea that we should just lose and get better picks and that will fix everything is just moronic.

The NFL is probably the least important sport to have high draft picks in. QB is the one exception to that obviously, but any other position you can typically get quality starters well into the 3rd round. And even at the QB position at least half the elite guys or more were picked in the middle of the first round or later. Brees, Rodgers, Wilson, Dak, Lamar, and Brady being examples.

Those constant 7 to 9 win seasons with Shanny weren't the reason we couldn't get over the hump. There were plenty of great players he could have had in those drafts that he passed on for busts. I'd rather have a team that wins as many games as they can and a GM with enough talent to get great players without having a top 5 pick. Look at teams like the Ravens and Steelers. They are never bad, yet they always seem to draft talented players. So seriously, save me the "it's better to win 4 games than 8" nonsense. That's how loser franchises think.
I know of zero franchises that think this, I could be wrong?

As for drafting late teens, you absolutely need some elite talent, Denver has NEVER won a SB w/o elite level players ... ever. Neither has the Ravens and Steelers. You need some bad seasons to draft elite talent, it’s not even debatable.

I get it, your’e such a better winner than I am, but **** 8-8 football.
