I think there are lots of reasons, and I think we should first look to ******* millennials and other youngins, but I think more than anything it's the prevalence of the 24/7 news cycle and ability for each other to foment ill will, even radicalization of beliefs, on the internet. Starting with forums like this, but then social media has raised it to a whole knew level.

I could not agree more on the 24/7 news and the social media blend. It's gone from toxic to as Ninja says - war. It feels like everything spawns a grievance and most of it is contrived by those making money off of the number of clicks on their web page.
