And this is at a school that's already hard to recruit elite football talent to because of their academic standards. So it's hard for me to really hold any of that against Shaw. If you throw out what's happened there since COVID, his resume is pretty iron clad.
I can confirm the Covid angle. I know someone that has been going there since 2020, and well, she says it’s over the top ridiculous. Add to that thier already tough standards of admissions, and of course recruiting will suffer. Recruiting is 80% of college football success, imo, and any Stanford coach is going in already at a huge disadvantage.

I think some interesting tidbits in Klis' latest piece -

On Shaw, he thinks if he were the guy it would be done by now. Says Payton is a possibility, but maybe not a strong possibility... No 2nd interview for Quinn... Heaps a ton of praise on Ryans and said that he impressed in his interview. And hints that Harbaugh may not be all the way out until you see the new deal officially with Michigan.

Seems like the only one who has strong momentum in their favor is Ryans.

Wonder how much Harbaugh paid klis to slip that part in there. Gotta keep that pressure on Michigan to pay him!

Both those things are killers for a program like Stanford, but the final nail has to be the NIL. There is just no way a program like Stanford can compete on the same stage any longer.

It's sure starting to feel like Ryans is the target. Will be interesting to see if Houston makes a major run at him, which could be problematic - then I wonder if Shaw or Payton would be plan B if he were to take the Texans job?

We really have to root against SF this weekend!

On the surface it's a little bit odd to do this now since I'd think he could have been an asset as part of a transition to another staff. But as a formality, they can't keep him on the hook without a commitment to him, so it's probably a bit of a courtesy/formality to just give him closure so that he can find a job elsewhere.

We’ll that sucks, unless he had let on he wasn’t interested in staying in any capacity outside HC

Either he was demanding the HC position, or he was putting someone's wife in a position. . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

I think Klis said his contract ended today, or sometime this week. He left the door cracked open, but it would be up to the new coach.

I don’t think there is any doubt now that the likely finalist for the job is Ryans. If it was Payton, we would’ve heard of a definite 2nd interview. It’s now likely he goes back to Fox. If it was Shaw, Quinn, or Morris, there’s nothing stopping WPG from hiring any of them now. The signs point to Ryans and I’m good with that.

While he doesn’t have the experience we thought they wanted, but by all accounts, he certainly may have the CEO traits that Penner says he’s looking for.

I'll be happy with Ryans or Shaw or anybody else who has not already been proven to be a mediocre NFL head coach.

    Mike Klis@mikeklis·1h

Greg Penner, George Paton pleased with how Rosburg handled his 2 weeks as interim head coach. They had an informative state-of-team debriefing meeting with him at season’s end as is common with head coaches. Door not shut on Rosburg return but first is head coach hire. #9sports

Confirming Jerry Rosburg’s coaching contract with Broncos officially expired today. He did good. See what happens with new head coach. At the very least he has his hyperbaric oxygen chamber business. #9sports
