Default Baseball Hall of Famer Joe Morgan dies at 77

Hall of Fame second baseman Joe Morgan, a key member of the Cincinnati Reds' famed Big Red Machine, died Sunday. He was 77.

Morgan died at his home in California, a family spokesman told The Associated Press on Monday.

He had struggled with various health issues in recent years including a nerve condition, a form of polyneuropathy.

Morgan was a two-time National League Most Valuable Player, a 10-time All-Star and a five-time Gold Glove Award winner. He is widely regarded as one of the best second basemen in baseball history and also gained renown for his 25-plus years as a broadcaster after his playing career.

I will always remember him as the soundtrack to my Sunday nights in the summer.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

When he came up with the Houston Colt .45s in 1963, Morgan got the game-winning hit in one of his first games. Philadelphia manager Gene Mauch was so angry, he turned over the post-game meal in the Philly clubhouse, complaining they were just beat by "a Little Leaguer".
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.
