Especially when Callahan can't stay on the field...Darby has had his injury issues and Fuller is 30 and on a 1 year deal.

I look at 2022 and the only return starters I see are Simmons and Darby. So filling 4 or 5 secondary spots is a need at some point. So was tackle depth, but we only have so many high draft picks.
I agree for the most part at DB, but when your swing tackle situation sucks ever year, Every FA RT has been a bust under Elway, your current RT is a complete unknown health wise and performance wise and your left tackle finally has had 1 good year because the NFL stopped calling Holding, you should probably take a T over a RB 2 and a guard. The board might not have worked for them that way, I do know they got jumped later on a couple times, but it could bite em in the ass this year. Now we hope Kelly is healthy and stays that way and wont cost a lot, Massie can play decent at age 37 or Dotson and munchack can work out whatever beef they have that made munch start Wilkinson over the Cleary better performing Dotson last year.

I still think you have to draft for need at least a little bit. So when the top RB on a lot of boards is available...and your current RB is decent but not great...and may be facing a suspension...and is 30...and is a free agent...it's at least a small priority. Yes, you definitely have to consider the track record of your RT, but if you invest a high pick on a new RT...and your current one happens to stay healthy...then it's a pick you make that won't contribute in 2021. It's a tough scenario and one that I'm sure won't be repeated in the 2021 draft.

It's also hard to believe that the Bills are going to go back-to-back tackles three rounds later, that Jenkins would continue to fall, etc.

And I do think people undervalue RB's in the second round. Twenty years ago you'd see three or four RB's go like clockwork. You took a first round talent in the second round. I think slamming a like of OT's being taken is logical. I don't think it's fair to try to pinpoint where one should have gone given this particular context.

Another reason to follow Walter football if you don't already for the draft. Walter and Charlie Campbell have been on point the last 5 years with guessing first rd draft picks. Daniel Jeremiah and Josh Norris seem to be doing very well lately as well.

So Bolles didn’t get better the league just handed him his success because of holding penalties.

Bolles has always been good in the run game, inconsistent in the pass game and bad with penalties. HE was for lack of a better term serviceable, but in need of upgrading. He cleaned up the inconsistency a tad in the pass game a bit with better technique but he still was inconsistent and held last year. There were absolutely a number of plays he should have been flagged for holding and would have been the year prior. However this isn't news, maybe to you but the NFL stopped calling holding last year the way they did prior. It was a point of emphasis going into 2020. Had he played this way in 2019 he would have had above avg grades in pass blocking and run blocking but he would have been penalized much more again and his ranking and grading would have been not as good as it was this isn't hard to figure out.

Bolles isn't the main problem with our OL, but prior to last year that wasn't saying much. The main problem is the Sieve that is RT and a rookie center who couldn't make line calls very well and pretty much got run through on a reg. basis in the pass and run game. There is a reason we drafted Meinerz and Fangio said he will compete at Center. We did have some decreased performance at guard, but I'm not sure if its a major concern long term or just a outlier with new offensive concepts. Right now though, our main issues are the unknowns we have a center and our RT situation. My point was we should have drafted a tackle over a RB or interior OL with all the unknowns we have there.

Bolles had the advantage of playing last year in a league that didn't focus on holding calls.

But it balances out given how overly enforced those rules were against him. Dating back to Lock's rookie year, the last quarter of that season so many of those calls on GB were utter bullshit. Just a reputation call against him, over and over again.

I hope that the reputation sort of 'reset' and the refs aren't just looking to call a hold against him.

That is complete horse shit! Bolles played at an elite level and it had nothing to do with some bullshit about the league handed his success to him. Bolles and munchek is the reason for his all pro season.
