Yea, i detest BM Elitist but they are very far and in between. As for Emperor i do love them (Actually enjoy vocalist Ihsahns solo work more) and you cant do wrong with any of their releases. If i did a top 500 metal albums their catalog would be in it.

Right on. There is so much metal out there, man. It's weirdly daunting because of the amount of skill metal takes, and how many insane bands are out there.

Yeah that elitist gate-keeper type "I'm more extreme/legit/OG/authentic" is wasted breath. The music speaks for itself. Unless the "scene" matters, at least.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the list, more curious than anything.

I'll dive into your stuff again soon. I saw Windhand on your top 100 and another buddy raves about them.

    This morning:

    Trivium - Ascendancy, HELL YEA!!!
    Opeth - Ghost Reveries, DUDE!!!
Dream Theater - Metropolis, pt. 2, UNREAL!!

I seriously love this 20 album set. These last three have been so good. I was skeptical of the Opeth and Dream Theater because I've heard their music a bit. But these albums are 10's if not Spinal Taps. The Trivium has that sort of hard rock vs. metal vibe but whatever. Sort of like A7X. Some of these may not be metalhead metal, but muggle metal. Whatever!!

The Opeth and Dream Theater are insanely good, some of the best music I've heard in a spell. The Trivium I'll definitely relisten.

If you like Ghost Reveries than dive into Blackwater Park, that album blows GR away in my opinion.

Yeah I probably need to spend a minute with Opeth's gems.

I finished up that dude's list of 10/10 metal albums.

There was a Symphony X album, I liked it a lot. Has those Dream Theater type prog vibes. I'd listen again, it has a sort of epic feel to it that is neat.

What else. Oh, a Meshuggah and Children of Bodom. The Meshuggah was ok, strong in parts but not a 10/10 for me on first listen.

The Children of Bodom was better, but not a 10 album.

I can't remember (dude just scroll up)

Ok now I remember. I left off at Dream Theater.

Slipknot Subliminal Verses....I own this album and love the song Duality. I tried it out back when I bought it but it didn't grab me. It grabs me a little more now. I might chew on it a bit more. I don't think it's a 10, but I can't exclude it from 10-hood.

Dragonforce, Sonic Firestorm: I was looking forward to this one because I only know that the guitarist is one of those G3 insane technical guys. So, I liked it but it was super same-y. I read a comment "yeah they only have one song, but it's catchy as hell." And agree. I like the music and would listen again. Is it a ten? Maybe.

Blizzard of Ozz -- You know, it has some great guitar and bass work. The bass in this album is insane. I actually wouldn't call it a 10 though. Even as good as Crazy Train and Crowley are. It's close. That bass is way too damn good, and ofc the guitar work so choice.

    Ok, that about covers it.

I like the guy's list, found some new stuff. Now I'm diving into my own list, newly made.

Blackwater Park is great. Love it. I might like Ghost Reveries better. Too early to know.

Ghost Reveries has some spooky shit going on, some trippy chords and stuff. Blackwater is more straight ahead and it kicks ass.

    I really like Opeth.

Here's how far I've made it down my most recent 20-ish album playlist.

    Opeth - Blackwater Park
    Agalloch - The Mantle
    Death - Symbolic
    Maiden - Powerslave
    Strapping Young Lad - Alien

    From last time and now:

    King Diamond - Them
    Entombed - Left Hand Path
    Carcass - Necroticism
Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss
Savatage - Hall of the Mtn King
    Cynic - Focus
    Sepultura - Arise
Gojira - From Mars To Sirius
    Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
    Rainbow - Rising
Dream Theater - Images and Words

I have some strong immediate thoughts about all of these bands!

King Diamond is all about whether or not the vocalist works for you. For me, it's a bit on the shrill side. So much that I might never really listen again, but never say never. There are a lot of bands that I like with unusual vocalists that grow on me. I could see King Diamond being a "grow on you" type of sound, but for now, nah. The rest of the music was good.

Entombed and Carcass were killer! I look forward to relistening to these.

Slayer is SO GOOD. I have no idea how I made it out of high school not having worn this album to the nubs, and in fact being completely new to it. <3

Savatage - Old school metal vibes with some of the shrill vocalist factor, not my favorite but enjoyed the listen.

Cynic (Focus) this album was EXCEPTIONAL! So many ...textures. Super pleasant surprise, will revisit this one a ton I know.

Sepultura (Arise) damn good, damn good. This was my first concert, but they opened for Ministry and I didn't know who they were at the time. I never really checked them out, either. Really like this groove metal sound, it's one of my favorite ways to take metal is what I'm finding. I like the Pantera sound, too, they seem kinda similar, and I suppose a lot of the nu-metal I enjoyed also sprang from this kind of sound.

Gojira (Mars to Sirius) - This was way more experimental than I was expecting, LOVE IT.

Queensryche (Mindcrime) - You know what? This album didn't really do much for me! I can't understand why. It's so good. Maybe with more listens, but it was just kinda bland tbh.

Rainbow (Rising) This album, OTOH, is top 5 of all of these new albums, and might be #1. If you told me I could only listen to one of these albums again, damn. This album just has this VIBE and the synth and guitar sounds are so perfectly produced.

Dream Theater - I am officially INTO this band, definite 10/10.

Neurosis should have been a favorite. I've actually met them and have friends in common with the band. But I didn't get into it. It had moments like tool that were a good groove but overall it was too masturbatory.

Listening through Ayreon now. This album is outstanding.
