Default Bucs pass-rusher Shaq Barrett accepts franchise tender, files designation grievance

TAMPA, Fla. -- Buccaneers pass-rusher Shaq Barrett has notified the NFL that he has officially accepted his franchise tender, but he is filing a grievance with the NFLPA to be tagged as a defensive end and not a linebacker, agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Barrett, 27, registered a league-leading 19.5 sacks in his first season with the Bucs, playing on a one-year deal for $4 million.

The franchise tag amount is calculated by taking the average of the top five players' cap percentages for the current season, or 120% of the player's previous salary -- whichever is higher. If Barrett is tagged as a linebacker, he'd earn $15.8 million for 2020. If he is tagged as a defensive end, he'd earn $2 million more -- $17.78 million -- due to new contracts inked by DeMarcus Lawrence, Frank Clark, Trey Flowers, Yannick Ngakoue and Cam Jordan all last year.

So glad he’s a Buc and not a Broncos.

I like him, I don’t think he’s anything special, he’s JAG ... he got massively overrated in Denver, yet, he did shit when he was a starter for Denver.

If he repeats his ‘19 production he should stay in TB at all costs.
