So then technically LSU should not lose ranking? I know thats not reality but if these rankings really didnt matter than there would be no need to rank them at all until those official ones you talk about come out. I know im being petty here but there is a reason why they look at LSU's loss today as an upset, etc. I say just let all the teams go into the season and then when the official rankings come out put the teams where they belong. IMO

Today’s loss isn’t an upset because of the rankings, solely, though. It’s an upset because everybody, from the people who make the rankings, to fans to Vegas thinks LSU is better than Mississippi State. The rankings are a reflection of that, not the cause of that.
