Default Sources: New York Jets signing QB Joe Flacco to one-year deal

The New York Jets filled their need for an experienced backup quarterback, agreeing to terms with former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco on a one-year contract, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The 35-year-old Flacco, who was released by the Denver Broncos in March after one season, will receive $1.5 million in base pay, plus the chance to make another $3 million with incentives.

The question with Flacco is his health. The former longtime Baltimore Ravens starter underwent neck surgery in early April to repair a herniated disk and won't be cleared for contact until late August or early September, a source said. He likely will participate in training camp on a limited basis, meaning no contact.

Since he's famous for *not* mentoring quarterbacks, this looks like a questionable move. At this point, the rest of the AFC has to ask themselves "If the Patriots aren't looking at this guy, why should we?"

He fits the bill as a vet QB at a reasonable price. What more are you suppose to ask for?

Some of the articles I have seen on the web about it are laughable.

One article was absolutely ripping the Jets for doing this instead of Cam.

They signed a guy who knows he has no shot at starter, unless Darnold goes down, and 1.5 unless he hits incentives. What makes some of these internet gurus feel like they know Cam was ready for that?

Maybe Cam is willing to be a backup at this point because of limited options out there, but at 1.5? Maybe, maybe not.

He is one of the absolute worst players in the league today. His arm is fading, he's immobile, he makes bad decisions, he whines, he's not very smart, he's losing accuracy, he's not a leader. He is bad in almost every single conceivable way a QB can be deficient. At this point he's not even better than Keenum or Siemian. Every dollar that he collects is an insult to third string QB's everywhere. JOe Flacco is a garbage player and should retire; he's stolen enough money from NFL franchises. It has to stop. It's just not right.

Cam would never sign to a deal like Flacco did.

I agree, which is what made the articles bitching about signing Flacco over Cam were laughable.

Stupid articles like this one, https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...fl/ar-BB14tLkS.

How is it a bad look for the NFL? Could it be that Cam doesn't want to accept a deal like that yet??

Yea that article is nothing more than race baiting. Despite Cam being overrated he is much better than Flacco at this point so for him to take a minimal amount of money to backup a guy who he most likely wont beat out for the starting job just wouldnt make sense. I dont think the Jets offense is designed for a QB like him anyway.

I think if Cam ends up anywhere whether it be a starter or backup would be Arizona or Chicago.

Why is it a bad look. It's a backup job. Cam wants to go somewhere that he can start. Purely idiotic fake news.
