Default Auditor: Brett Favre received $1.1M in Mississippi welfare funds for speeches he never gave

A nonprofit group involved in an alleged embezzlement scheme for misusing money allegedly paid NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre $1.1 million to speak at events. The problem, according to Mississippi's state auditor, is that Favre never showed up for the events in question.

State Auditor Shad White announced $94 million worth of questionable spending from the Mississippi Department of Human Services (DHS) recently. The funds reportedly were used for many events that did not assist those in need, despite what the nonprofit claimed. That includes payment for sports activities.

The Mississippi Community Education Center sent the payments to Favre, who resides in the state. According to the audit, the former quarterback was paid $500,000 in December 2017 and $600,000 in June 2018.

Whoah! That sounds really shady. Wonder why Favre is not being indicted?

Default Brett Favre to repay $1.1 million given to him for speeches that were not made

JACKSON, Miss. -- Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre is repaying $1.1 million in welfare money that he received for multiple speeches where he did not show up, the Mississippi state auditor said Wednesday.

Auditor Shad White said his office received $500,000 from Favre on Wednesday, plus a commitment that Favre will repay the other $600,000 in installments over the next few months.

Favre's effort to repay the money came two days after White released an audit of spending by the Mississippi Department of Human Services that showed Favre had been paid by the Mississippi Community Education Center, a nonprofit group whose former leader has been indicted in a welfare embezzlement scheme.

Mississippi is one of the poorest states in the United States, and the Community Education Center had contracts with Human Services to spend money through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, also known as TANF.

Mississippi + Favre + some of the charges would likely require intent + agency liability = wiggle room for a favored son to not be indicted, in my humble estimation.

    Werd.

I did 3-4 jobs for state auditor when I was still doing investment work. Good peeps but it felt political where they aimed the auditor gun. Agendas and stuff.

I think I'd kick my own ass if I was an auditor. Tax collector and auditor are jobs that fall behind elephant shit shoveler at the circus.

Stealing from charity and welfare isn’t against the law anymore, it’s not even frowned upon anymore.
