Nelson has been All-Pro twice, Chubb and Risner have each played 16 games ... so much winning.
Besides, nothing says you couldn’t have Nelson and Risner.
Hopefully Chubb isn’t a bust because we already know Nelson is not.

Nelson plays a position where you can find almost any busted LT first rounder and plug him in there for a benefit. Nelson also plays the position where you can fill it, easily, in FA.
All the punters are available in the first round, too.
Drafting Nelson and Risner at the same time means you basically forgo addressing real team needs. Chubb plays a complete game...Nelson is....a guard.
LT's are harder to make and if you'e the attributes to be a LT and bust you can be moved to guard -with some regularity, at least- and be a productive player.
I hold the availability and surplus of guards against Nelson and all other guards when evaluating the entire process. It's a combination of degree of difficulty and football economics.
The game has changed. By taking Risner in the second round the Broncos maximized their value. Sure, in a pure vacuum Nelson is superior as a player - but when you break it down what you have to pay to get that surplus of talent is not worth the cost.
When the colts have to pay their LG the money of a tackle or lose him to some team who can't find any OL -pathetic in this day and age- or some team willing to pay the insane premium on him, it'll be more obvious.
He is a great player. He should be in the league, obviously. But he will almost never be worth the resources it takes to field him. It's not his fault. He doesn't control the economics of the league.
In my 'opinion' of course. Just an opinion.
Individual achievements (especially awards like pro-bowls and all-Pros because they’re a popularity contest) don’t interest me in the least. How has Nelson made the Colts a team to be feared or someone to be schemed around? I’d be willing to bet (and no I’m not going to research it because I don’t GAF) probably 1/2 the Guards in the league had similar stats as Nelson last year. Nelson is an all pro because his name is on people’s minds And he was a top 10 pick 2 years ago in a field where there are no standouts (because, I mean, they’re Guards).

I get it, y’all hate OL, we should never draft one again.
