Default Broncos decide against 5th year of holding calls

Decline Bolles' 5th year option. Yay!

Since we haven't drafted or found his replacement yet, my sincere hope is that this is a motivation for Bolles to get his shit together and fulfill his potential.

This is based on the assumption that his potential was greater than what we've seen to begin with. We desperately drafted 2nd round talent in a year when 2nd round talent at LT was all that was available.

What makes it sting worse is that we let Okung walk because he was meh...and then he reverted back to decent form after he left. Our coaching had to be so awful back then.

There was a bit more to it than that...

On March 17, 2016, Okung signed with the Denver Broncos on a one-year deal worth $5 million, which included an additional four-year, $48 million option.[39][40] The contract he negotiated for himself for 2016, had no guaranteed money and was extremely team-friendly and incentive-laden and is solely based on his performance. Had the Broncos exercised the option to retain him in 2017 he would have received $21 million guaranteed for 2017 and 2018.[41] He ended up starting all 16 games at left tackle for the Broncos in 2016.

On February 23, 2017, the Broncos declined Okung's option on his contract, making him a free agent.

That is not an unfair point, not at all.

I'd like to think that even a 2nd round LT has a higher ceiling/potential than Bolles has shown at this point.

In 2020 there were about five offensive lineman who would have been second round talents ten years ago. The position is changing. It is what it is.

Some do...some don't. It's a 50/50 shot. We just happened to call heads and wound up with tails.

Good thing the 2021 draft is loaded with LT talent

Now this is great news. I'm glad to hear this. If so, it makes more sense why we passed on those available this draft.

But they’ll still need CB’s in ‘21 draft.

There was only 1 out of 4 first round OTs was any good. Ryan Ramzchek was the only one who could play. Unfortunately the Broncos didn't pick him. I remember when the pick came down Alfred Williams just got up, and left the studio. He couldn't deal with it.

So what? Who gives a shit what Alfred Williams thinks or does?
