On the other hand, for QBs without such strength, proper footwork is a huge factor. Think of Manning post neck surgeries. He didn't have the same arm-strength anymore, and so much of his throwing relied on great foot-work and leg strength. It's why he couldn't throw well out of Kubiak's roll-outs, and it's why he couldn't throw well after the ankle injury severely limited him.

If you have a cannon for an arm, then footwork isn't a huge deal. The less strength you have in your arm, the more important footwork becomes.
That’s probably fairly true, I think one of the reasons you’re seeing more quarterbacks ready to play younger, whether it be in college or pro, is because youth coaches are finally not trying to put kids into the quarterback mechanics box, but rather working with their inate ability and instincts.

It’s less about stepping through your throw when you have as big of an arm as Lock (and Mahomes). If you’re interested in listening to Dilfer talk about it, it’s during his appearances on the Ryen Russillo podcast.

Anyway, “poor footwork” on a quarterback just doesn’t bother me much now.
Does Drew have any shortstop play in his history?

Not sure. He was a recruited basketball player, I believe.

We are seeing an era of football where conventional rules are being broken and then rewritten.

To NTL's and Mo's point - a guy with a cannon who can also sling the ball from various levels is Stafford. His arm is as strong as Mahomes, but he doesn't have the natural fluidity to be *as* good at it as Mahomes.

So there are level's to the shit.

Let's go get us some wins, boys.

Fat, steamy load of good that cannon of an arm does Lock when he’s either laying on his ass, running for his life or is trying to overcome 1000 holding calls.

Bro your points are many times thin and just an overview without nuance.

Stafford is a great QB, he's mired in a shithole in Detroit, and he's their best player without any help. Like Joe Thomas. He plays in a bum organization who's priority is not winning. This isn't their fault entirely that they haven't been able to get to the promised land.

I saw that Tebow to DT playoff win throw vs. the Steelers recently. I never noticed Tebow kicks his left leg out to a 45 degree angle on that throw before.

Yeah, so Tebow’s mechanical issues were a problem. He was all over the place.

Hey Look at it this way, the “he was in his 2nd year” excuse is an improvement over the “he’s basically a rookie” excuse they gave him when he was here.
