More good news for Lock. Darnold has been traded to Carolina. Another domino falls for Lock to stay the starter next year.

rest - https://www.denverbroncos.com/news/e...ass-on-justin-ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — If one of the top four quarterbacks remains on the board when the Broncos are poised to make the ninth-overall selection later this month, ESPN's Todd McShay believes it's not quite certain that Denver would draft a signal-caller.
In his most recent mock draft, McShay projected the Broncos would pass on Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields in favor of Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II. Fields, a two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, fell to No. 11 and the New England Patriots in McShay's mock draft.
McShay said he labored over the decision, and he suggested that Denver was one of the more difficult teams to predict in the top 10 selections. The difficulty lays in McShay's understanding of the team's evaluation of Drew Lock, a 2019 second-round pick.
"Denver at nine is interesting," McShay said on a conference call Monday. "I don't know that they've given up on Drew Lock. I think if they continue to put people around him and support him better, he can have a really successful career."

Once upon a time, Drew Lock was mocked to be a top 10 pick too. If the draft grade is there on a QB and Patton feels someone is the #2 or #3 QB on his board, I wouldn't fault him for trading up. If the draft grade isn't there, QB isn't a position to mess around with. First round QBs were not a sure thing last decade.
No matter what the Broncos do, at this point I expect Drew Lock to be on the roster and to get a chance to start. Bridgewater and Alex Smith would both be great options to come in and compete with a starting opportunity if Lock can't earn it. Bridgewater has had overlap with Shurmur and could be a good locker room influence to have. I'm not confident in his ability to stay healthy, but the guy can ball when he is on the field. Based on the QB rooms that Shurmur has typically had though, I would not be shocked if the current room continues another year. The Broncos best hope is still Lock showing growth and winning the job.
Dalton Risner: Peyton Manning is a 'Big Fan of Drew Lock', Been 'Doing a Lot of Work' Together
https://www.si.com/nfl/broncos/news/...-work-together"[Peyton Manning]'s a big fan of Drew Lock,” Risner told the Matt Lombardo Show. “Him and Drew have been doing a lot of work this offseason and watching film, so if he’s on board with Drew, I’ve been on board with Drew, too. It’s been fun.”
