Drew was really bad yesterday. I’m hoping that it’s because he was pressing against his hometown team, and against the best quarterback in football. Granted, I think this is some of what the offense is asking him to do, read deep to short on his progressions — I think — but he spent too long reading the deep play, trying to make a huge play, and missed so many underneath, keep-the-drive-alive routes.
I don’t know if the scheme hasn’t allowed for it, or the Chiefs were bracketing him or he’s just not on the same page with Lock, but four targets for Jeudy is not enough. Shurmur has to find more ways to get him involved. One target was deep, and Lock was 2-3 on outside passes to him short. That’s just not enough. I don’t know where the problem is, but that needs to be fixed if this offense is going to get better.
The offense went to shit when Lindsey got hurt. This team just runs better when he’s in. Hopefully, the concussion doesn’t linger. Still not playing him on third down is egregious.
Tim Patrick and Alex O each had a good game. They are both steady players where you can expect a consistent performance, but they aren’t superstars, they aren’t the player you run your offense through, and the Broncos need to find out who’s going to be that player. We know Sutton can be that guy, but for the time being without him, Jeudy, Lindsey, Fant, one of these three guys probably has to step up and be that guy and Lock needs to get on the same page with them and Shurmur.
The point output can’t resemble the Siemian Broncos, and it is.
