I believe Sid is correct, yes, he did call plays. He also didn't last in the NFL and is now being mediocre at UCLA and Shurmur is still in the NFL. As Sid also said, Shurmur isn't a mastermind, but he's a competent NFL OC, and he's now had a long career in the NFL. He also wasn't the reason Drew Lock couldn't read defenses last year. Drew Lock is responsible for that.
Yeah, yeah, I got ya. Shurmur's concepts are more vertical at times than I'd like, which is where him being the second fiddle to Kelly was good, because Kelly's offenses in college have been based in short to intermediate option routes, and when Shurmur is at his best he's incorporating both. I'd say the same for Kelly. I'm back, film studying dropping momentarily ... let's make fun of the nerd.
Pat Shurur is worse than Rick Dennison
This does not mean Lock is good - just that 2 people can suck at their jobs at the same time
Drew Lock told
@peter_king
“My whole life, I relied on just having arm strength, gunslinging it. I’ve learned from Teddy—he’s more calculated, puts the ball out of breaks before guys get there.”
.....I have been saying that Lock DOES NOT, NEVER HAS, and NEVER WILL put a ball out before "guys get there" ....I was trashed in the 'mane for this opinion...even when I posted a number of videos demonstrating it....and now he freaking just comes out and says it!
What's best is Lock says this like it's the first time he's ever heard of throwing a ball before a target breaks....like it's a foreign concept to him. wow.
....Former 'maners..... I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!
I don’t think he’s saying it like he’s never heard of it, however when you got the type of arm talent he has you tend to rely on just drilling it in places.
He’s just growing as a quarterback…… he’s thrown some lovely passes before the target is even out of there breaks so far in camp. Kid just needed time and needs reps!
Congrats you was right about a guy with a handful of starts last year and your wrong as hell this year so your had your 15 minutes of fame being so right about something but it’s dead now. So now what?

ZEROVOLTZ biggest fear is seeing Lock emerge as a Bona fide star in the nfl. I don’t think he can handle that.
....Lock isn't on the verge of NFL stardom....he's not even close. He is living up to his scouting report. The one that was easy to write and when you've read one scouts take, you've read em all...they all saw that he was who he was going to be after a bazillion reps. At some point you max out folks. How many more reps do you suppose drew needs before something changes like his footwork or his unwillingness to pass with anticipation?
