I wish BOB was still Texans GM, could probably get Watson for a 12-pack and a large pizza.

Broncos QB Drew Lock eager to work with Pat Shurmur again in 2021

“The [last] time that happened to me was my junior college and I threw 44 touchdowns and set an SEC record that got beat pretty recently,” Lock said on Jan. 4. “There’s no doubt in my mind that this team can be extremely, extremely good. It’s going to start with the way that I play and this offseason I’m going to make sure that I can come back ready to roll.”

With all this talk about what to do with Lock floating around combined with all these recent first team QB “failures” out there wasting away, why not just bring them all in and let them fight for the job. It’s crazy. Open competition with the winner getting to be our starter. Lock vs the field. The field being:

    -Trubisky
    -Rosen
-Darnold if the Jets replace him at #2
-Tua if the Dolphins replace him at #3
    -Minshew
    -Winston
    -Mariota

Any other maybe starting caliber QBs that are backups somewhere else that might want a shot at redemption? It would be nice to be able to bring them all in for a week long camp, give them a playbook and some reps, evaluate them, then just pick the best guy for the job who has shown he has the ability and desire to be our franchise QB for the next decade+. It’s just crazy to think that most, if not all of these guys will potentially be backups or unemployed soon after being so highly drafted and touted (except Minshew, but he’s done about as well as the rest of them and he has starting experience, that’s why he made the list as a “dark horse”). Man, that would be nice. We could just end up with the “best of the rest” type thing. That’s how you find your QBOTF - think of it like a big job fair with a week long interview! I think it makes sense...

I have a real hard time thinking Miami is already giving up on Tua.

If they can get Watson, I think they'll happily ship off Tua. I don't think they'd give him up for anyone else who could be available, but when a guy like Watson hits the market I think you have to make that move if you can. And Houston would probably jump on that over anything we could offer if they were shopping him.

just a gut feeling, but i kinda think the patton hire could be bad news for lock. . . in minny, they drafted 1st round QBs twice in the last decade, failed to develop either of them, and in both instances they pivoted quickly back to veteran options. . . i think it's likely we're going to push hard for stafford or ryan, if either is available. . .

This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

Yea, it would be surprising if Miami let Tua go but then Watson is a whole other animal. It wouldnt be to much different than Arizona parting ways with Rosen and Denver parting ways with Tebow when Manning hit the market. I do hope Denver inquires about Watson as well.

Possibly but then i think both of those guys have hit their ceilings but maybe thats the way Denver wants to go.

That wasn't Paton's decision. He wasn't the GM. He wasn't the coach.

To be fair, Teddy B had a brutal knee injury that took 2 years to come back from and many thought it would be career ending for him. They didn’t have time to wait so they moved on. He did get them to the playoffs. Ponder was pretty much a disaster though, but the whole team was kinda bad at the time. Wasn’t that around the time of the “love boat” fiasco?

it's never patton's decision. . . spielman called for the code red!

I hope U are wrong for more than keeping lock. I don’t trust Ryan at all. Actually either of those Guys. They aren’t what we demand as a qb in Denver . Put the team on your back and will it to win 3-5 times a season. Ryan feels like he’s a dead man walking maybe even another Flacco and this love affair people have stafford is strange since he likes to chuck it up to the team at bad times. He’s would be wanted if we had no other choices.
You either find a perfect specimen in the draft and sell out to get it. Or sell out or trade for Watson or sim. Or stick with lock for another year and hope he makes the strides he needs to make.
