Joe Flacco thought that he was being downgraded going from Baltimore to Denver. And I don't mean in regards to rosters, because duh. I mean in regards to franchise status and football honor.

    What a pathetic miscreant.

I’ve spent some time listening to Trent Dilfer who is one of the coaches at Elite 11, and that footwork thing isn’t as big of a piece as we once thought. Mahomes footwork is “awful.” But Mahomes is brilliant at getting in position to spin it correctly for whatever throw he needs to make. It’s less about stepping through your throw when you have as big of an arm as Lock (and Mahomes). If you’re interested in listening to Dilfer talk about it, it’s during his appearances on the Ryen Russillo podcast.

Anyway, “poor footwork” on a quarterback just doesn’t bother me much now.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

    I think it's relative.

Mahomes' arm is so strong that he can throw accurately from almost any angle and configuration. Elway was great at this as well.

On the other hand, for QBs without such strength, proper footwork is a huge factor. Think of Manning post neck surgeries. He didn't have the same arm-strength anymore, and so much of his throwing relied on great foot-work and leg strength. It's why he couldn't throw well out of Kubiak's roll-outs, and it's why he couldn't throw well after the ankle injury severely limited him.

If you have a cannon for an arm, then footwork isn't a huge deal. The less strength you have in your arm, the more important footwork becomes.
