Default New 3/27 CBS Sports 2020 7-Rd. Mock Draft

A new 7-round mock has come out from CBS Sports.com. I will include my comments on the selections:

    https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/...ke-round-3-qb/

(note: for discussion of their previous 7-round mock before free agency, go here)

    http://www.broncosforums.com/forums/...-mock-for-2020

    1. (15) Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina.

The top three WRs (Lamb, Jeudy and Ruggs) were all gone as were the top OTs so this is a good pick. The trade for Jurrell Casey reduces the need for DL but you can't have enough good ones. Other options: Justin Jefferson, WR, LSU, Kristian Fulton, CB, LSU, C.J. Henderson, CB, Florida

    2. (47) Lloyd Cushenberry, G-C, LSU.

Faced top DTs of the SEC and is a solid blocker. Other options: Noah Igbinoghene, CB, Auburn, Isaiah Wilson, OT, Georgia, Michael Pittman, WR, USC

3a. (77) Devin Duvernay, WR, Texas.

Caught over 100 passes last year at Texas and reminds me of Emanuel Sanders - smallish receiver who just makes plays all over the field. Can also return kicks. He's a virtual ginsu knife of a receiver. Other options: Jonah Jackson, OG, Ohio State, Matt Peart, OT, Connecticut, Lamar Jackson, CB, Nebraska

    3b. (83) Matt Hennessey, C, Temple.

Okay but why take him and Cushenberry both with second-day picks? Other options: Troy Pride, CB, Notre Dame, Brycen Hopkins, TE, Purdue, Solomon Kindley, OG, Georgia

3c. (95) Bradley Anae, Edge, Utah.

Nice OLB depth behind Miller and Chubb who can start someday. Other options: Justin Madubuike, DL, Texas A&M, Raekwon Davis, DL, Alabama, Van Jefferson, WR, Florida

    4. (112) Darnay Holmes, CB, UCLA.

Finally a CB is added to our rather fragile group. Holmes has been a late riser on draft boards. Other options: Ben Bredesen, OG, Michigan, Eno Benjamin, RB, Arizona St., K.J. Hill, WR, Ohio St.

    5. (178) Robert Landers, DT, Ohio St.

A 6-1, 285 defensive tackle? He'll need to be very quick or he's a waste. Other options: Justin Strnad, LB, Wake Forest, Saahdiq Charles, OT, LSU

    6. (181) Cheyenne O'Grady, TE, Arkansas.

A top athlete with more red flags than a Chinese drill team. Cool name though. Other options: Shane Lemieux, OG, Oregon, Raequan Williams, DL, Michigan St., Joe Reed, WR, Virginia

7a. (237) Omar Bayless, WR, Arkansas St.

Small school receiver that's strictly depth. No relation to Skip. Other options: Carter Coughlin, LB, Minnesota, J.J. Taylor, RB, Arizona, D.J. Wonnum, Edge, South Carolina

7b. (252) Nate Stanley, QB, Iowa.

Those QB meetings are getting crowded. Other options: Whoever's left.

    7c. (254) Alohi Gilman, S, Notre Dame.

One pick before Mr. Irrelevant. Wishing he'd been a UDFA. Other options: Whoever's left.

Notes: Overall, I like this draft better than their previous one. The guy they had us taking in the second on 3/11 lands in the fifth round in this mock. I would have prefered they not use two early picks on centers and had gone for a corner earlier. A true OT might have been nice but they already have heavy investments at the tackle spots. Starting with the fifth round, the picks are just training camp flotsom.

Drum-banging WR-TE Chase Claypool goes to the Bengals in the fourth round. WR Jalen Reagor of TCU lasts until the third round. Texas wideout Collin Johnson who is 6-6 with deep speed lasts until the 6th round. QB Jordan Love, who some have making the first round, falls to the Jags in the second. Grant Delpit and Leviska Shenault also fall to the early second.

I thought we gave up one of our sevenths during a free agency trade. Am I mistaken?

Ok, boys and girls. Have at it.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

Sure didn't take long for this to be outdated. Broncos re-sign DT Shelby Harris, giving us a solid foursome at the DT spots with Harris, Casey, Purcell and Jones.

I wouldn't back off of Kinlaw due to a 1 year deal for Harris and a 2 year deal for Casey.

Dude, these draft analysts are gonna be shocked when Sutton makes the PB and they figure out that Denver already has a #1 WR.

I don’t want Anai in any round, he’s just not explosive at all. Plug Davis in there as the starting NT instead, that’s a beast of a DL.

I wonder if Amukamara is a possibility at some point after the draft.

This is how I’d prefer that draft to go, not knowing what else is available and going by your other suggestions.

    1st— Kinlaw DE (Dude!).
2nd— Wilson RG (Starting RG and Future RT, Love this kid)
3rd— Peart LT (future at LT, giving Bolles at least 1 more season, if that’s even a thing).
3rd— Pride CB (great speed, nice fit with Fangio)
3rd— Davis NT (beast, I think there’s Jarran Reed untapped pass rush potential here too, coming out A’Shawn Robinson was supposed to be the interior pass rushing threat but it turned out to be Reed).
    4th— Holmes CB (steal)
5th— Strnad LB (love this kid)
6th— Joe Reed WR (this is really the ginsue knife you’re looking for, better size and value than Duvernay).
7th— Bayless WR (I don’t know anything about him so let’s stick with that pick, I like Coughlin as an off the ball LB though).
7th— Jeff Thomas if he’s still there, he usually is in Fanspeak.

You are correct about trading one 7th, it went to Titans for Casey (steal), so let’s dump Gilman.

Btw, if you’re like King and you’re wondering why Coughlin isn’t going higher and might have to move to off the ball LB? Arm length.

Also, again, like Coughlin, the reason Cushenberry is getting talk about moving to G? Arm length, he’s got OT arm length and built like a G in a very weak G draft class ... Same with Ruiz.

This happens every year, I’m not making it up.

Edit; this actually makes Cushenberry an ideal fit for Denver, he can play RG next to Glasgow until he has enough experience and then you can flip flop the two to their natural positions.

Would be shocked if they ignored WR (which is def a need) until the end. I’m thinking they get 2 in the top 3 rounds. And I could see Jefferson being our first pick. He’s the best inside wr in the draft and then go get a outside guy in 3.

There’s 5 or 6 other WR’s in this draft that say hi, I’d rather go with Hamilton than waste a 1st round pick on a slot.

One WR in the Top 3 rounds is enough, especially considering there are more pressing needs on both sides, but 2? Pass.

Hamilton looked much better in the slot when Lock started playing. They seemed to click better than Hamilton did with Flacco. But I don't think anyone is or should be sold on on Patrick as a viable number 2. Shurmur runs a ton of 11 personnel, so there will be 3 receivers on the field A LOT. So whether it's round 1 or 2...a viable #2 receiver is a need and will likely happen
