Default Throwback look in NFL could be more common in 2021 with possible helmet rule change

Throwback jerseys could be getting an assist as early as 2021.

The NFL is considering changes to its one-helmet rule prohibiting teams from donning alternate designs above the chin strap.

"There will be no change for the 2020 season," league spokesman Brian McCarthy told ESPN. "There are ongoing discussions for a potential change for the 2021 season, but no decisions have been made."

Bruce Arians mentioned the idea this week. When asked about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' famous Creamsicle uniforms on "The Dan Patrick Show," the coach said the league could tweak the rule and allow such jersey comebacks.

The NFL went to one helmet per team earlier this decade to maximize head safety.

Allowing multiple helmet designs gives teams a chance to tap into nostalgia, including the New England Patriots with the Pat Patriot look, the Tennessee Titans' Oilers throwback, the Philadelphia Eagles' yellow jerseys and variations of the Denver Bronco display.

I know it’s an unpopular take around here, but I much prefer our new Unis to our old ones. I never really liked the baby blue helmets and I kinda despise the “D” logo with what looks like Thunder firing off a snot rocket. It doesn’t look cool or tough to me. Looks like a 4 year old came up with it. I loved it when we changed in the late 90s and I superstitiously believe it’s one of the reasons we won back to back Championships. I know, I’m insane or whatever, but it’s just how I feel. I also like that all navy blue unis (which everyone else, especially MO, seems to hate) and am not a fan of the orange jerseys being the primary (I’m fine with them as an alternate though). I think they are bad luck. Elway does too, hence why we wore the visiting white in SB 50 when we got the choice of uni.

The Titans should not be allowed to wear the old Oilers uniforms.

    Those colors belong to Houston!

I do now. But I was glad they made the change in the early 90's because to me the old Pat Patriot uniforms represented years of futile play, poor ownership and embarrassment.

But it's a good looking uniform.

They should go back to the guy taking it up the ass helmet. The past represents the future in this regard. Tough times coming.

Tough times coming because a 43 year old QB left because NE didn't feel the need to guarantee him 50 million over two years?

Keep telling yourself that. Losing HoF QBs is rough. Replacing that leadership void is near impossible to overcome. Few times it has happened teams were legit contenders.

    This is Bellicheat biggest test

So twenty years of mediocrity just like the Denver Broncos experienced after Elway retired?
