    Default Elway Trades For Free

Just realizing that by making these small trades using late round draft picks, the Broncos increase their drafts by recouping the picks through the comp system.

In essence, it really doesn't cost us a pick!

By trading for a player in an area of need, such as Casey, rather than signing say...a D.J. Reader. If their contract isnt part of the free agency market, then it doesn't count against us in the compensatory pick computations.

If Wolfe, Chris and Shelby Harris each make decent contracts signing with other teams, we get comp picks because our signings aren't commensurate.

Had we signed Reader, we would lose a comp pick for one of these players.

In fact, if Shelby signs a contract worth say 12 million.....that is a fourth rounder! So if we signed Reader, his contract would have cost us nothing in draft picks vs trading for Casey which cost us a 7th.

Had we signed Reader, it cancels out Shelbys contract and we get no comp pick.

So in this instance, we just exchanged a 7th rounder and Shelby for a 4th rounder and a 5 time pro bowler!

    Elway......you stud you.

Same thing happens for Chris Harris and Bouye btw.

Had we signed Byron Jones, we get nothing.

By getting Bouye and giving up a 4th rounder, we recoup the pick when Chris Harris signs his deal.....minimum 3rd or 4th rounder depending on size of contract.

The Broncos FA’s probably won’t be getting high comp picks, CHJ got peanuts, Glasgow cancels out McGovern and no one wants Wolfe and Shelby.

Hopefully, 4th round is Broncos wheelhouse.

Ryan Harris says his sources told him that BOB isn’t done embarrassing himself yet and speculates that J.J Watt could be traded ... send Royce and a 2021 4th round pick, I say.

If you let your good players sign with other teams you get high supplemental draft picks

    Lol.

We arent talking Von Miller here. Right now we basically traded Janovich for Casey....thats a crush. Did we let Chris Harris sign with someone else or did he value himself more than other teams did?

Chris Harris should have taken the Broncos deal last year. He would be making 3 million more per season. But unfortunately he wanted out. So we traded for Bouye, lost a 4th....but will get it back in a comp pick from Harris at this point.

We have yet to see who else signs where, including more Broncos signings.

The fans in Houston would crucify O’Brien. Literally. Watt is so beloved by that fan base it would be like had VJ had complete control and traded Von. Actually, Watt is probably more beloved in Houston than Von is in Denver. The man is so much more to that franchise than just a great D-lineman. O’Brien would die. They would actually execute him.

Did you hear in his exit interview with Hopkins that O'Brien tried to make a correlation to Hernandez? What is it with these Belichick acolytes?

There is some truth to ownership not wanting to pay Hopkins again. Keep in mind, Cal McNair is new at running an NFL team as CEO while Janice McNair is new at this whole "the buck stops with me" position. Ownership has positioned itself to fire BOB at the end of the year and blame him for the Hopkins trade, all while saving themselves some cash. They would absolutely fire BOB before letting Watt be traded, purely from a team marketing standpoint.

Tunsil is almost certainly going to get $20 million per year too. Factor in Watson, who will require a mega deal, and all of the sudden the front office has a lot of mouths to feed. Ownership didn't want Tunsil, Watson, and Hopkins each making over $20 million a year with Watt not too far behind.
