Per CBS Sports, the NFL is serious about some teams having nine home games and others having eight, claiming this is not tied at all to international games. The league claims it will be "fair" to all teams so that the home/road split rotates every season (let me guess...Patriots get more home games?).
The only way that would seem to work is if the AFC get the ninth home game in even years and the NFC the ninth home game in odd years or something similar. Any setup where a playoff berth could be affected because one team had more home games than another would be grossly unfair.
J.J. Watt and Richard Sherman have taken to Twitter to voice their displeasure. Some retired players are lobbying for better health care for players who leave the game. The fans (remember them?) are saying "why not fix the awful officiating first and then we can talk about expanding the playoffs?"
So this doesn't appear to be an easy approval by the players despite larger rosters and a higher split of revenue.
