How often is the recruiting coordinator given the HC job? Seems counterproductive to me because the HC is more of a CEO.

This is what happened to Cabral years ago, never given HC job because he was so important to recruiting.

We’ll see how much Chev loves Cu if he’s passed over .

The problem with hiring the local favorite and alum as your head coach is there’s a good chance you have to fire him and that’s an unpopular thing to do.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

Default Karl Dorrell: CU Buffs football “can win now … We’re going for it now”

BOULDER — When CU Buffs athletic director Rick George found out last week that Karl Dorrell had built a home in Colorado, he knew he had his man.

“You’re going to get the very best from me,” Dorrell said Monday during a news conference that introduced him as the Buffaloes’ 27th full-time head coach. “You’re going to get a guy who’s here for the long haul.”

Dorrell and his wife, Kim, had decided to build a home along the Front Range and planned to retire here, the coach revealed Monday, regardless of where his career path led them.

Their son Chandler, who was at the news conference, and their daughter Lauren, a former CU volleyball player, were both born in Boulder County. The births took place during Dorrell’s previous stint at CU, as an offensive coordinator under former coach Rick Neuheisel from 1995-98.

“Because (this job) was Colorado, my home, no one was going to take me away from this job,” Dorrell said. “I know I’m here for a reason. I’ve accepted the challenge (of) leading (it) to greatness.”

It's a little disappointing because he was probably the 3rd or 4th choice. But he's got a nice resume, including Pac 12 head coaching experience and deep ties to Boulder. High integrity guy who seems to be well liked by everyone who has worked with him.... If he succeeds, he will want to stick around, whereas some of the other candidates would have been 2-3 year rentals that would bolt if they had any success.

No idea if he can recruit though.

BOULDER, Colo. — New Colorado head football coach Karl Dorrell announced Thursday he will retain four assistant coaches from the previous full-time staff.
