Default Hey North - top 10 black metal?

So I feel like I can begin to have an opinion on this. My question is whether or not Summoning belongs on this list. This what I have so far. Top 7 or so could shuffle around a bit, nbd. Towards the bottom it starts to feel forced and arbitrary.

    1. Agalloch - The Mantle
    2. Alcest - Ecailles de Lune
    3. Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
    4. Gallowbraid - Ashen Eidolon
    5. Caladan Brood - Echoes of Battle
    6. Fen - The Malediction Fields
    7. Ulver - Bergtatt
    8. Skogen - Eld
    9. Sojourner - Empires of Ash
    10. Summoning - Stronghold

Is there something that is flat missing?

Death metal is what a restless Johnny Cash would do if he wanted to annihilate you with noise. This explores that space.

Is death metal the same as black metal?

Oh shit. I'm becoming imprecise in my inebriation.

    No.

Nomenclature in metal is even more arcane and demanding than in chemistry. There are worlds of difference between technical thrash metal and technical prog metal. Like the difference between halogens and alkali metals like sodium. Then you have the infinity of metalloids in betwixt.

I meant to say 'black metal is what a restless JC would do...'

It's got that air of futility and wisdom.

Anyway, it's probably not your thing, but check out Agalloch - The Mantle. I think you like Metallica, the good stuff, so you might like that.

So I'm three songs in and this is not what I was expecting at all.

Pretty tame. They have a good sound.

Are you sure this is death metal?

Let me check. This is pretty important so I don't want to misrepresent.

    Atmospheric black metal.

    http://www.metalstorm.net/bands/band...dname=agalloch

That's what I should have called the list--top 10 atmospheric black metal.

Yeah, it's tame, and probably not enough for what you need. But Cash was pretty tame too. Kind of soulful.

You are like my bf Greg, if I can presume shit. He's my high school bro and best man at my wedding, he was into high decibel and high octane, catholic dude who ended up becoming a high-achieving workaholic walking a kind of razors edge waiting to move to Wyoming and 7000 acres. Listen to Gallowbraid, you'll like that one. But then, if you are in that certain scorched-earth, burn it down mood, maybe check out .. idk man. I don't have a good thrash-type recommendation, but north can chime in. I'm into this atmospheric stuff. Check out Gallowbraid.

That sounds like me. Wyoming or Montana. I really wish it could have been Colorado, but it's changed too much.
