We just spent the last 4 years watching TS, PL and CK ... I’ll take any of these overrated QB’s.

- John Elway“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”
Phil always had a weak arm for NFL standards, but he was throwing absolute ducks in the second half of the season.
I’ve got to the point where none of these guys are overrated if they’re an NFL starting QB, I’ll gladly go with Flacco if I have to, y’all can have your Nick Mullens and Brandon Allen’s.

Still, it feels like your argument boils down to "there are stats, so no one is over or under rated. They are rated exactly as their stats say."
I'm not claiming Stafford has been put in the category of "elite", just that the conversation has consistently been that he's "right around the corner" to that and despite having one of the best receivers of all time playing for him, never could take that step.

No, my definition of overrated is that the narrative around a player exceeds what they have actually produced. I think Eli is overrated. He had an average career and is being talked about as a hall of famer. If people start clamoring for Stafford to go to the Hall of Fame when he retires, then I'll consider him overrated by those people. For now though, I think he's pretty properly rated.

Lets hope Elway doesnt think Rivers is in his prime either.
