Default MLB commissioner Rob Manfred says 'we are playing' but 'players need to be better'

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred remains confident the 2020 season can continue, telling ESPN's Karl Ravech on Saturday that "there is no reason to quit now" despite positive coronavirus tests that have led to the postponement of 17 games in 10 days.

"We are playing," Manfred told Ravech. "The players need to be better, but I am not a quitter in general and there is no reason to quit now. We have had to be fluid, but it is manageable."

Manfred's comments follow the postponement of Saturday's St. Louis Cardinals-Milwaukee Brewers game. The postponement was caused by four positive COVID-19 tests among the Cardinals, including one player, according to ESPN and multiple reports.

Manfred on Friday told MLB Players Association executive director Tony Clark that if the sport doesn't do a better job of managing the coronavirus, it could shut down for the season, sources familiar with the conversation told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Yes Shane, we all saw the two threads you started on this as well. No one cares about what the ratings are. Take your spam somewhere else.

Yeah those numbers seem pretty normal for regular season baseball and basketball. But Shane is going to push his agenda into the ground.

They just said on the Rockies telecast that when Willie Mays went to the HOF there was 23 writers who did not vote him in?!?!?!?!?! What the ever loving ****? Those 23 guys should never have been allowed to utter the word baseball again let alone continue writing about the sport.

That makes no sense. His talent was too great. Was it racial?

That's my question too. I just don't get it. You could easily argue that Mays was the greatest all-round baseball player of all time.

He also served the country in the military and lost 2 years of his career and still hit 660 HRs. Dude should have been unanimously voted in.

Neat fact, my son and Willie Mays share a birthday, May 6th.

Was it the first ballot nonsense? They’ve mostly snuffed that out, at least, but it was a long tradition.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

What’s been encouraging is that there seems to be basically universal agreement that the managers and their unwritten rules can shove it.

    Loved this -
