Thread: Saints seek to prevent release of emails related to work on Catholic abuse crisis

NEW ORLEANS -- The Saints are going to court to keep the public from seeing hundreds of emails that allegedly show team executives doing public relations damage control for the area's Roman Catholic archdiocese to help it contain the fallout from a burgeoning sexual abuse crisis.

Attorneys for about two dozen men suing the church say in court filings that the 276 documents they obtained through discovery show that the NFL team, whose owner is devoutly Catholic, aided the Archdiocese of New Orleans in its "pattern and practice of concealing its crimes."

"Obviously, the Saints should not be in the business of assisting the Archdiocese, and the Saints' public relations team is not in the business of managing the public relations of criminals engaged in pedophilia," the attorneys wrote in a court filing. "The Saints realize that if the documents at issue are made public, this professional sports organization also will be smearing itself."

That’s ironic!

Foolish to do so under the banner of the Saints organization. Nothing wrong with PR folks consulting but it should’ve been one a personal basis or as a “Benson INC.” type of thing. Similar to Kraft Media.

This seems really silly, from what I can see.

The N.O. Archdiocese in an attempt to be more transparent, and more open, decided to release a wide-ranging report on all credibly accused abusers going back decades.

In the process, they apparently sought out a friend/organization who has a professional P.R. department to bounce ideas off of.

Now that friend/organization is being accused of helping the arch-diocese cover up abuse.

It's absurd on its face.

My joke was witty and punchy.

It should have at least 60 hi-fives. That's the real point here.

To get me back on track - I share some of NTL's concerns about a good actor potentially being smacked around a bit. I also, however, am curious to see how this suit travels.
