Thread: New England Patriots aren't waiting until free agency for Tom Brady's 2020 decision: report

The New England Patriots are reportedly seeking an answer from Tom Brady about his plans regarding free agency and the 2020 season before free agency opens up in March.

Brady has said he’s not going to be quick about making his decision in the face of speculation about his plans once the offseason officially begins. ESPN’s Adam Schefter said Thursday on “Get Up” he doesn’t believe the Patriots are going to be left blindsided by any decision the six-time Super Bowl winner makes.

I would like to see him leave but I don’t think it’s makes sense for him to do anything but sign a 1 year contract with the Pats and give it one more go.

Next Season he wont be the Tom Brady everyone has known, hes gonna look so slow and tired. He done.

They'll also need to be making a list of higher profile QBs that they may consider in FA, as well as scouting higher profile college QBs during all of these senior all-star games that they wouldn't otherwise bother with if they knew Brady was coming back next year. All of this will take time away from scouting players of other positions.

I think you understimte the size/capacity of a team's scouting department. Also, I can guarantee you they have been scouting elite QB prospects in recent years. They really wanted Baker and were going to try to trade up for him had he not gone 1.

He looked really bad when he played this year, but he's still young. I imagine if Brady is gone they'll be looking pretty hard at the first round QBs the year and if they can trade up.

Well to be fair hes TBs backup, he got very limited reps with the starters

My understanding is that they aren't "truly" free agents until the free agent period starts (March something usually), and up until then, I think their old team, who they are technically still under contract with, can resign them. Not 100% sure, but believe that's right.
