Y: The Last Man is currently in development at FX but who knows how long that will be in development hell. There is also a Sandman series in the works which could be interesting if done right.
A newer series I am just getting into that would be great is Saga. It is basically about normal characters who live in extraordinary times and are constantly trying to keep themselves safe from all the craziness. It genre hops between books but is grounded enough to keep me engaged in the characters which is the most important thing. Essentially a model the new Star Wars movies could adopt since they are moving away from the Skywalker story.
From New York Times bestselling writer BRIAN K.VAUGHAN (Y: THE LAST MAN, EX MACHINA) and critically acclaimed artist FIONA STAPLES (MYSTERY SOCIETY, NORTH 40), SAGA is the sweeping tale of one young family fighting to find their place in the worlds. When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe. Fantasy and science fiction are wed like never before in a sexy, subversive drama for adults. This specially priced volume collects the first arc of the smash hit series The Onion A.V. Club calls "the emotional epic Hollywood wishes it could make."

The Wicked and the Divine would be another good one, but its very high concept.
Amazon LinkEvery ninety years, twelve gods incarnate as humans. They are loved. They are hated. In two years, they are dead. The team behind critical tongue-attractors like Young Avengers and PHONOGRAM reunite to create a world where gods are the ultimate pop stars and pop stars are the ultimate gods. But remember: just because you're immortal, doesn't mean you're going to live forever.
