The dude avg 3.8 YPC last year...he is avg at best, this will and can only be solid if we got him cheap.....

He is the type of back we need.

Lindsey has the speed but not the power. Freeman has the power but not the speed. Melvin has both.

Melvin is good at these things:

Catching (which we need and Shurmer said will happen a lot more)
    Pass pro
Can break a long one occasionally
Can push the pile a little bit

He is not a Gurley. He is not a top 10 RB. This is like Knowshon in his last year with the broncos, with Manning. He is better than what we currently have. He has the total package. I do not think he is going to be a TD for us. But this is a great pickup!
    The Plan at the moment:

Draft: Trade a 3rd and 6th this year to a team to move up and get a 2nd next year (this will happen).

    Players I want:
Jake Ferguson (Jake Butt) or Jelani Woods or Jeremy Ruckert or Cade Otten (owen daniels) at TE- All 4th rd or later.
Troy Anderson LB 3rd/4th rd (yay Timmy!)
Neil Farrell, JR DL- run stuffer- bye purcell

$8 million a year for a guy who was the second best RB on his own team last year? Color me unimpressed. I've liked most of our moves this offseason but that's too much for most any RB nowadays.

Is it really? Doesn't seem terrible to me, but I don't pay close attention to the business side of the game.

On a personal note, I like seeing RBs get paid. Those dudes have some of the shortest careers and take some of the harshest physical abuse, so good on them for getting paid. I hope Phil gets paid soon, I freaking love that kid and have for getting close to a decade.

Dude wont even make it a full season before getting hurt even in a shared backfield....what a waste of money...Meanwhile we still need a #2 WR, and ILB help......I guess we know now to stay away from Denver RB's for fantasy purposes.....

Gurley was signed for 1 year and 5 mil....Thats what we should have done......I would take a cheap knee plauged Gurley for 1 year over a crappy 8 million dollar scrub RB in gordon.....

Okay. It happened and there's nothing we can do about it so I'm gonna go ahead and root for him to be part of a badass 1-2 punch with my boy Phil.

Falcons sign RB Todd Gurley (1 year, $5 million): A+ Grade

A good example of a solid move at RB

Gordon has potential to be a 3 down back still (even though he shouldn't need to be with Lindsay). Gurley needs to be on a snap count with his arthritic knee. I'd still probably not pay a guy with so many miles at RB, but I would rather have a slightly more expensive Gordon than Gurley at this stage.

Gordon has risk as well, cant even avg 4 ypc and got beat out by a lindsay type player, in fact they pretty much ended up going away from gordon at the end of the year last year for the last 3 games, Gurley is the better back overall but your concerns about his health are valid as well. Thats why a 1 year deal make sense and its cheap....
