Default Clinton Portis in the news and not in a good way

Clinton Portis is among 10 former NFL players charged in an alleged health benefits scam worth over $3 million

    Link: https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/12/us/nf...aud/index.html

Portis, who reportedly earned more than $43.1 million over his nine-year career, was known for wearing colorful costumes, wigs and oversized sunglasses in media interviews. But after retiring, he filed for bankruptcy and became one of a startling number of former NFL players who go broke after their playing careers.

You read about this stuff all the time. Must be pretty tough when you're a young kid with a lot of cash, not knowing who to - and - not to to trust.

When you take guys who grew up with not a lot to their name, give them fame and the millions, you have a recipe for disaster. A lot of these guys just blown all their money; some get swindled out of it. Some former stars have talked about blowing a bunch of money on their families and friends. It's counter-intuitive in theory that so much money could be wasted, but it makes more sense to me these days.

There are still ways to make money for them. If you hit the autograph/collector circuit, do some promotional work, and the types of work where availability is the only talent you need these days, you can live comfortably. Can you go from zero/debt back to driving the newest Lambo/Ferrari? Probably not. But a nice two story home and Mercedes isn't anything to scoff at, either.
