This game doesn't look any better after a few short hours of sleep. Of largest concern is that the defense wasn't good - not sure where the problem was here, but we have a defensive mastermind coach and are loaded with talent on that side of the ball, yet we looked bad pretty much all game. I didn't realize Callahan was such an important part of our planning, because Yiadom was piss poor in his place. What worries me is that we made no adjustment as Yiadom got beaten over and over again. When we signed Kareem Jackson, all I heard about was his versatility and how he's played both CB and S. I also heard how Fangio disguises coverage and you never know what's coming. So what happened? Did we ever consider taking Yiadom out and using Jackson opposite Harris, with Simmons and Parks as safeties? I never thought our offense was going to be good, but the defense is supposed to make this a 16-13 win instead of a 24-16 loss.
As for the offense ... well, the names change, but the story remains the same. I got criticized for saying Flacco wasn't an upgrade, but I stand by that until proven otherwise. Notice that I didn't say he was a downgrade, just not an upgrade. Keenum was a mistake and we compounded that by trading for a guy that, at best, is slightly better than Keenum, and then ate dead money by releasing Keenum. We were about to settle for two long FG's in the first half but got sacked out of range; even if we hadn't, though, getting into position for 50+ yard FG's was the Flacco offense in Baltimore, so we probably shouldn't be surprised.
The O-line is still a problem, Hamilton was brutally bad (besides the killer drop, he also had that play where he caught the ball on a flat route with wide open space in front of him, and managed to stumble and lose a yard or two). We've had five years to fix this offense and this is the best we can do? I thought we might have been showing a vanilla offense in this painful preseason, where we scored five TD's in five games, many of which were in garbage time, regardless of who was in there. But in this game we scored ... one TD in garbage time.
Special teams gave up their usual one big play, but again, that should have been expected when we were turning over the bottom of our roster right before the season started because we couldn't find people who could cover kicks.
I think it's time to fire Elway.
I hit the record button after our 1st drive of the 2nd half where we settled for a FG. I was a bit encouraged by that drive, and when Hamilton dropped a sure TD pass, I decided it was time for bed.
I might try to watch the rest of the game today, but not sure I'm up for it.
Flacco cant do it alone. This loss is not on him at all.

might as well play Lock at this point when Flucco cant see a blitz pre snap.
Coming into his prime. cant see blitzes pre snap. And when he realizes it he just takes the sack. No scramble ability.

Flacco shares blame. He was an upgrade over everyone since Manning, but not enough of one so far.
The OL is still an issue. Play calling was still an issue. The entire defense was an issue, Yiadom didn't belong on the field.
Bright spot - I don't think Bolles was called for a penalty.
That Hamilton drop? Different game if he catches that ball.
The play calling?
Ron Leary?
The D getting abused and Chubb and Miller totally nullified?
The running game in the 1st half?
All that was on Flacco?

They didnt lose and play that bad because of anything Flacco did or didnt do last night.
