But at what point during the down does the defense possess it?

I’m ok with designating a finite number of downs before a turnover. I’m not ok with changing possession before that fourth down when the defensive team doesn’t possess the football. The fact that if the ball had gone out at the one inch line it’s not a turnover, but if it hits the pylon it is a turnover makes it a terrible rule. I’ve not heard a single logical argument for why that’s the rule. Ever.

So you are fine with a rule that allows possession to turn over without the defense possessing the ball. Good talk.

How do you feel about it being a safety if the offense fumbles the ball out of its own end zone?

Punishing a team for going backwards is fine by me. Punishing them for going too far forward is not logical. It makes no sense.

What is the reasoning for it?

I don’t know what.philosophy the rules makers were putting in place, but I like it because, like I said before... it’s a high risk and high reward area.

So now we've found two scenarios in which you're fine with possession turning over without the defense possessing the ball. But you said that's "illogical" right?

How sad is it that the Colts are actually better than we are.

I shouldn’t have said never. It’s a bad rule that isn’t consistent with other rules and I’ve yet to hear the logic for why it exists. Anyone defending it here care to lay out the logic behind the rule?

I'm liking the slop game between the 9ers/Redskins.

It’s not really, at all. They had a better roster and their backup is better than our starter.
