Meh
I listened to the record, it was ok but im not blown away by it.
Yeah I thought it had some good tracks, but the build-up after so many years it was inevitable to have a bit of a let down though its a solid album. My friend is a huge Tool fan and won't shut up about it though. The only thing worse than Star Wars fans are Tool fans. I'm going to keep listening though, Tool albums usually have to grow on me a bit before I can decide.
To me it was superb. Its like Tool, all grown up, at the peak of their profession, doing what they do as well as anyone has ever done it. Just superb. I've listened to all of it three times, and I like it better each time. My wife OTOH HATES it, but then she HATES every other Tool album and says they are indistinguishable and terrible .
“What fresh hell is this?”

Pretty good for a bunch of dudes in their mid 50’s. I like it!
I think that’s a good way to describe this new album and on a technical level they’ve never sounded better. I’m glad the hardcore Tool fans love it because ultimately it’s for them. I can definitely appreciate it but I can tell it’s going to take me a few listens which I’m more than willing to do.
I still go back and forth between Bends and OKC. Never even listened to Kid A and Amnesiac. Then peeps be like 'omg new Radiohead so 10/10 wow' and I'm like oops owned lol. Not that Hail to the Thief was bad...just not all that.
First time that happened to me was an REM album--Rolling Stone magazine couldn't stop gushing, but it was...ok I guess.
Sometimes they should just have Timmy! do the reviews and save themselves embarrassment.
I don't listen to Radiohead anymore, but here is my ranking of their albums:
In Rainbows > The King of Limbs > Amnesiac > OK Computer = Kid A > Hail to the Thief
REM had a few good songs but I don't get what's so great about em.
I don't listen to Tool and will not listen to their new album, but my observation by looking at their wiki discography is how many 10 minute long songs does a band need.
Taylor Swift's new album is decent, and Lana Del Rey's album is great.
You're welcome for polluting the Tool thread.
