Once you're picking between one loss teams I fully agree that the teams that were already ranked higher have a built-in advantage. If Minnesota goes 12-1 and still wins the big 10 I agree they have no shot to get in. I still think in general the committee would give the nod to an undefeated major conference champ.
Case in point, last year OU had 2 losses and made the playoffs. ND had 1 and finished 5th. Technically that shouldnt happen in my opinion but i know that OU is a better story than ND. Its why i really dont have faith that even if Baylor and Minnesota go undefeated that either will see the playoffs.
This would all be so easy to fix right this second with a 16 team playoff. All 10 conference champs get a bid, and you have 6 at large teams. At that point, every single team in the country has a chance. Just win your conference, and you're in. Just like every other major college sport.
Lot of college football left to be getting too upset over rankings.
