Default do any of you use MNVO / alternate carriers for cell service?

i'm doing some reading, and it seems like most people find them to be pretty reliable. . . i always assumed they would be significantly lower quality, but i want to re-assess because i'm probably going to have to buy a new phone. . . anybody have any relevant experience?
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

We have AT&T. They've been good up here in Alaska. North Dakota....we had Verizon, I believe. Never tried these secondary mobile companies due to coverage concerns. I was thinking Patriot Mobile, but I'm not sure their coverage areas.
