So, I guess he did good enough during mini-camp to make the team. So, what's the highest he's likely to climb the depth chart this off-season, assuming Luck doesn't suffer a major injury?

I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a QB2 at some point. He didn't look bad at all in what action he had. His chances of beating out Luck?

    Absolutely no chance whatsoever

He wont beat out Luck but its a great signing for them. Low risk, high reward if Luck continues to have health issues. As long as Chad can keep his head on straight he should take advantage of this opportunity.

Assuming Luck maintains the level of performance that he's had over the years, and doesn't suffer any major injuries, I don't think the Colts would even consider bringing in someone who might challenge him for at least the next 5-6 years. By then, he'd be 34-35 years old & have been a starter for 11-12 seasons. That seems to me to be about when teams start assessing QBs of his caliber to decide if they want to give him a few more years, or bring in someone who will eventual supplant him. I guarantee you it won't be a 29-30 year old you'd never started a game in his 6-7 year NFL career. Kelly’s only hope to be a starter would be for Luck to have a career ending injury, or do a good enough job on the occasions that he does get to play that a team with huge problems at QB will call him up. Like when Matt Flynn threw 6 TDs in the only game he played in 2011, resulting in the Seahawks signing him to a huge contract the next year.

There wasn't any question on whether the kid had talent. I think he would have started at some point last year if he hadn't been cut.

    Talent wasn't the problem.

He would have been possibly QB1 this year with vet competition. Who knows how this team would look like today if he started 6 or 7 games last year and showed promise? Chance even VJ could still be here.

#Colts QB Chad Kelly has been suspended without pay for the first two games of the 2019 regular season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. This, of course, for his incident while with the #Broncos.
